As a child, my grandmother cared for me — she called out from the window for little Flo for soup. In her final years, when she lost her vision and mobility her calls transformed into pleas for help calling Flo to her aid.

Often, one can rely only on family members, as the support system for elderly care remains inadequate. The cries for help from my grandmother’s armchair carry a tragic weight, yet the piece highlights the therapeutic power of humor. Perceiving humor and absurdity in challenging circumstances offers relief, rendering the seemingly unbearable and occasionally tedious burden of caregiving more manageable.
